🚀 Introducing TALOS: Guardian of the BlueDevils Technology-Activated Learning & Operations System Forged in the fires of creativity and code, TALOS is the guardian of innovation for the BlueDevils. Part myth, part machine, and all heart—he protects curiosity, inspires learning, and stands ready wherever technology meets teamwork. Whether he’s introducing younger students to computer science or helping high schoolers interact with the future, TALOS is more than a machine—he’s a mission. The name TALOS comes from Greek mythology. Talos was a giant bronze guardian created by Hephaestus, the god of invention and fire, to protect the island of Crete. He was one of the earliest imaginings of a robot—strong, loyal, and programmed with purpose. Our TALOS carries that legacy forward as a 21st-century protector of innovation, guarding opportunity and inspiring problem-solving in every hallway he enters. TALOS was made possible through the support of the Bright Ideas Grant, Perkins V Federal Funding, and the Georgia Computer Science Capacity Grant. The Bright Ideas Grant project, titled “Delivering the Future Now,” was created to bring advanced robotics and automation into the daily operations of Tift County High School. This initiative bridges the gap between theory and practice, giving students hands-on experience in STEM, computer science, and business operations. TALOS lives and learns with Dr. Busbin and her Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence students at Tift County High School, where he supports classroom instruction, student projects, and real-world learning through robotics and automation. TALOS may appear at select school events or make classroom visits across the district. Like a K-9 unit and its handler, TALOS operates under the guidance of Dr. Busbin and is used to support structured, curriculum-based experiences across grade levels. 🔨📐Honoring a Legend in Construction Education: Mr. Bentley, our beloved Construction teacher at TCHS, is retiring this year after years of dedicated service to education and skilled trades. His impact has stretched far beyond the classroom—and it shows. Several of Mr. Bentley’s former students, now enrolled at Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC), recently surprised him with a one-of-a-kind tribute. These students, who were also proud SkillsUSA members during their time at TCHS, designed and created a custom sign in his honor. Crafted using a plasma cutter, the sign showcases Mr. Bentley’s years of service, a nod to the schools he taught at throughout his career, and detailed illustrations of the tools of the trade. This heartfelt project speaks volumes about the respect and appreciation his students continue to hold for him. Thank you, Mr. Bentley, for building not just projects—but futures.
